If you preordered Battlefront 2 you’ve already had access to the beta for a couple of days. But for all of us other people the open beta for Star Wars: Battlefront 2 fires up on October 6th – today – and officially runs until October 9th.I haven’t had a chance to get in and play yet, but I’m currently installing the open beta because I have high hopes for this Battlefront! I didn’t mind the first “new” Battlefront, and the footage I’ve seen from Battlefront 2 looks pretty great so far!Open betas have become somewhat of the “norm” with AAA games of this caliber, as far as I’m concerned they’re not only a great way to show us what a game has to offer but also give us time to test the game for free – back in the good ol’ days we would call that a demo and you could download it at any time! What’s in the open beta?The Battlefront 2 beta gives us access to a few different game modes spanning across both single and multiplayer.
Should you jump in you’ll have a chance to test out the 40-player Galactic Assault which pits 2 teams against each other as they attempt to complete Planet-specific objectives; In the open beta, you’ll only be able to play Naboo’s Theed map. Galactic Assault is pretty much just Battlefront’s (2015) Walker Assault with different walker-type vehicles to escort.You can also play the 24-player Starfighter Assault in the beta which was featured in Battlefront 1 (2015) and has everyone controlling a starfighter. The 16-player Strike Assault will allow you to play small scale infantry-based battles and there are also 2 single-player challenges to complete in Arcade mode.Unfortunately, we don’t get to test out any of the single-player campaign, which is something that I’m really interested in. I felt it was the oneAnyone who takes part in the open beta will also receive an in-game bonus upon release in the form of a loot crate containing a special Darth Maul emote and a couple of other goodies.
